In contrast to area scan cameras, line scan cameras only record one line per exposure cycle at a very high resolution. In a linear movement, either the object is moved past the sensor or the sensor is moved past the object. This produces a two-dimensional image line by line. The resolution per line is significantly higher with this technology than with conventional area sensors and enables better spatial resolution with a given object field. By matching this technology to a uniformly running production line, image acquisition is possible at very high line speeds.
