Our WBO film was developed specifically for retort applications and offers a high-performance, recycling-friendly alternative to conventional aluminum or PET barrier films.
The film is suitable for sterilization applications and is therefore ideal for ready-to-eat meals, pet food, baby food, long-life sauces and sensitive filling goods in the pharmaceutical sector, for example. At the same time, it enables the production of single-origin PP laminates that already comply with EU circular economy requirements.
Whether as a 2-layer laminate with CPP or as a 3-layer structure with an OPP outer layer: this high-barrier film opens up maximum design and technical flexibility - and at the same time provides a convincing answer to regulatory, technological and ecological challenges.
Product features
Retortability
- The BOPP high barrier films are suitable for retort applications.
- The films offer the production of laminate structures that can be sterilized under conditions of up to 121 degrees Celsius and 30 minutes.
Recyclability
- Allows the creation of PP laminate structures for retort applications in order to be prepared for EU recycling regulations.
- The WBO films can be used to replace both aluminum barrier films and PET-based barrier films.
Flexibility
All WBO films offer a wide variety of PP-based multilayer laminates, e.g.
- 2-layer laminates: WBO film laminated against CPP sealing layer
- 3 -layer laminates: WBO film in sandwich construction laminated against printed OPP on the outside and CPP sealing layer on the inside.
In contrast to aluminum as a barrier medium, pouch designs with a viewing window are also possible thanks to high film transparency.
Machine processability
- The top coating protects the SioX barrier layer and ensures high performance and reliability in the laminating process.
- Both solvent-based and solvent-free laminating technologies can be used.
