Unique solutions Printing

The Swiss site of Eson Pac AG is now called PEP Labels AG. The start-up is now working with the HP Indigo 6900 digital printing press. The conversion to the new machine solution was implemented within two weeks thanks to the active support of CHROMOS Group AG and opens up new possibilities.

As a specialist in pharmaceutical packaging, PEP Labels offers labels for medical packaging and clinical trials. Its customers include global players in the pharmaceutical industry. Covid-19 has set the market in motion and the race to develop a vaccine has begun. "Corona has given us a special boom with labeling for products used in clinical trials," says Duc Quoc Pham, Managing Director of PEP Labels AG.

Then in May 2020 - in the middle of the first lockdown - the ageing HP Indigo WS 4050 suddenly broke down. "We hadn't planned to replace the machine for another two or three years and now had to reschedule quickly," says Duc Quoc Pham.

"Together with CHROMOS Group AG, we have achieved something extraordinary: Within two weeks, we had a fully functional HP Indigo 6900 installed at our premises and were able to continue production."

Fortunately, the CHROMOS Group had a fully equipped HP Indigo 6900 available at the HP Indigo Demo and Training Center in Glattbrugg, which could be put to use immediately.
Duc Quoc Pham has not regretted the decision to replace the machine at short notice.

"With the HP Indigo 6900, we have completely different ways of approaching our customers and presenting new features. Security labels with micro lettering that cannot be seen with the naked eye or QR codes that are printed with invisible ink - all this offers us counterfeit protection and brings us new, individualized solutions."

"Thanks to the inline primer unit and the doubled production speed, we save an incredible amount of time and can serve our customers faster at short notice," says Duc Quoc Pham.

Thanks to the significantly more diverse options with the HP Indigo 6900, jobs can now be transferred from flexo printing to digital printing. "Whereas we previously did around 90% of all work on flexo printing, we are now at 80% flexo printing and 20% HP Indigo digital printing," says Duc Quoc Pham.

Gone are the days when only small print runs were printed digitally. "That's no longer the case today," says Duc Quoc Pham. As the new machine runs twice as fast, many products can be transferred from flexographic printing to digital printing. "It takes the pressure off us in terms of set-up times. This frees up capacity for new projects."
